Since 1999, GMC has been building, restoring and caring for places on Vancouver Island and beyond. From bringing new life to century-old buildings to creating something entirely new, we believe the best places are shaped by their surroundings, made with intention and designed to get better with time.
Every property has its own context, character and opportunity. We take the time to understand what makes a place special — its history, architecture, neighbourhood and potential — and let that inform what comes next.
Sometimes that means preserving the details and stories that have endured for generations. Other times it means creating something distinctly new — architecture with its own identity that stands out, yet still feels like it belongs.
Either way, we create with intention, think for the long term and remain invested in many of the places we create.
And because we are fortunate to still steward and care for many of the buildings we’ve created, our relationship with a place — and with the people who live and work there — doesn’t end when construction does.
That long-term perspective shapes the way we think about everything: how a building will age, how people will move through it, where neighbours might meet, what will give it character and what will make it feel good to come home to.
Because the best buildings become more than buildings.
They become places with stories worth becoming part of.
Every place deserves its own answer
We don’t believe in creating the same building twice. Every property brings a different history, setting and opportunity. Our job is to understand what belongs there — and then create something that adds to it.
Design with intention
Good design is about more than how something looks. Architecture, materials, landscaping, common spaces and the smallest interior details all shape how a place feels and how people experience it every day. We care about those details — including the ones you may never consciously notice.
Keep what matters
Character can’t be recreated once it’s gone. When a place has history worth preserving, we work to understand it before changing it — retaining the materials, details and stories that give it identity while thoughtfully adapting it for life today.
Stay invested
Many of the buildings we’ve created are still ours today. We remain part of their communities — caring for them, listening to the people who live and work there and continuing to make them better.
Built for what comes next
We think beyond opening day, the next sale or the next tenant. We create places that can age with character, where businesses can grow, people can put down roots and communities can form.
